New retail developments planned around Alexander's Highland Market

Three new retail developments with a collective 72,000 square feet of space are planned to go up around the Alexander's Highland Market development off Highland Road, says George Kurz of Kurz & Hebert Commercial Real Estate, who is working on all three deals. "We're getting ready to kick off and really move forward with development in that area of Baton Rouge," says Kurz. "We have many letters of intent in place." As Daily Report previously reported, Investar Bank closed on a Highland Road parcel in front of Alexander's last week, on which it plans to build a new branch. Adjacent to that parcel is another that closed last week, Kurz says, on which an 8,000-square-foot retail center is planned. "Then there's another tract that should be closing the week after next. That's where a 14,000-square-foot building will go up," he says. "And at the same time we're getting ready to kick off on an additional 50,000 square feet of space just adjacent to Alexander's." Kurz says he's not able to talk about any letters of intent that have been signed yet, but adds people can expect a balanced mix of retailers. "We still have some space available and we are currently out there looking at all options. We're more concerned about having the right tenant mix for that area than we are about just signing leases," he says.
